Addis Ababa, June 17, 2025 (FMC) – The newly renovated National Palace Museum officially opened its doors to the public today, following four months of trial operations.
The museum houses an extensive collection of historical artifacts, including ancient vehicles and zoological exhibits, alongside quality restaurants and wellness spas to enrich visitors’ experiences.
Mr. Mitku Deresa, Head of the National Palace, noted the museum’s important role in Ethiopia’s development, saying, “The National Palace Museum is not only a cultural landmark but also plays a significant part in our efforts to alleviate poverty.”
The museum will be open from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM daily, except Tuesdays. Admission fees are set at 300 birr for regular entry and 1,000 birr for special tickets. . . . . .

Addis Ababa, June 17, 2025 (FMC) – The Addis Ababa City Administration is undertaking a 44‑kilometer riverside development initiative aimed at rehabilitating the capital’s polluted and degraded river systems, according to the Environmental Protection Authority.
Dida Diriba, Head of the Authority, told Fana Media Corporation that comprehensive studies conducted by universities and the Authority have revealed that many of the city’s small rivers have lost their natural ecological character due to increasing pollution.
“In response, we are implementing a 44‑kilometer riverside development project to restore and protect these rivers,” Dida said. He noted that the initiative includes the construction of public recreational spaces, sanitation .....

Addis Ababa, June 7, 2025 (FMC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has called on citizens and international tourists alike to visit the Hambaricho Mountains and take on the challenge of climbing its legendary 777 hand-carved steps, highlighting the site’s historical and natural significance.
During his recent visit to the area in Central Ethiopia, the Prime Minister launched the construction of model rural villages under his flagship Rural Corridor Development initiative. The visit also included a personal ascent of the famed stairs of Hambaricho, a feat he used to inspire broader engagement with Ethiopia’s unique landscapes.

Addis Ababa, June 5, 2025 (FMC) — Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar and Mayor of Addis Ababa city, Adanech Abiebie launched a modern urban educational beekeeping observatory at Addis Zoo Park in Addis Ababa today.
The president also visited the Bosco Children Center in Addis Ababa.
Speaking at the occasion, President Nataša Pirc Musar said the pilot project of the beekeeping observatory is an attempt to promote education and cultural heritage.
Ethiopia and Slovenia have great love and deep connection with the world of bees, she added, stressing that loving for nature would enable us to live in a much different world.

Addis Ababa, June 2, 2025 (FMC) – The inauguration of the new Ethiopian Airlines’ passenger flight to Sharjah will be strengthening ties with the UAE and the wider region at large, Ethiopian Airlines Chief Operating Officer, Retta Melaku remarked.
The Ethiopian Airlines inaugurated a new passenger flight to Sharjah, one of the most vibrant cities in the United Arab Emirates, on Sunday.
Speaking at the inaugural flight event last evening, Ethiopian Airlines Chief Operating Officer, Retta Melaku recalled that Ethiopian Airlines historic presence in the Middle East and the Gulf region began with the first historic landing in Aden, Yemen, in 1946.
The first historic landing of Ethiopian Airlines in Aden marked the beginning of a strong and enduring connection with the region, he added.

Addis Ababa, May 30, 2025 (FMC) – The Ministry of Culture and Sports (MoCS) has announced that the Ethiopian culture and arts delegation will embark on a global cultural tour aimed at strengthening people-to-people ties and promoting Ethiopia’s rich cultural heritage.
Speaking to Fana Podcast, State Minister for Culture and Sports Nebiyu Baye said the multidisciplinary troupe includes around 70 members and will tour several countries — including Russia, Brazil, and Greece — to showcase Ethiopia’s cultural diversity, artistic excellence, values, and historical legacy through live performances and exhibitions.

Addis Ababa, May 25, 2025 (FMC) — Participants of the ID4Africa Annual General Conference have lauded Ethiopia for its rapid infrastructure development and warm hospitality.
The conference, held from May 20-23, 2025 in Addis Ababa, the headquarters of the African Union, attracted representatives from over 100 countries.
Participants acknowledged Addis Ababa for hosting significant global and regional events like the ID4Africa Annual General Conference.

Addis Ababa, May 22, 2025 (FMC) — The National Museum of Ethiopia officially reopened today following the completion of extensive renovation works aimed at preserving and enhancing one of the country’s most treasured cultural institutions.
The Director General of the Ethiopian Heritage Authority, Abebaw Ayalew, stated that the museum, originally built in 1973, had been undergoing renovation since December 2024.
He told Fana Media Corporation that the project included the restoration and beautification of the museum’s premises, as well as the repair of long-standing drainage issues.
The renovation also focused on upgrading permanent exhibits, improving security measures, and refurbishing exhibition halls to meet modern standards.

Addis Ababa, May 15, 2025 (FMC) — Efforts are being exerted to make Ethiopian geo-heritage sites become UNESCO Global Geoparks, Tourism State Minister Mr. Sileshi Girma announced.
The state minister said that Ethiopia has launched a concerted effort to have its significant geological sites designated as UNESCO Global Geoparks.
As part of this initiative, the ministry has partnered with UNESCO that hosted a training session for international scholars on May 13 and 14, 2025.
The training, held under the theme “UNESCO Global Geoparks and the Role of Geotourism in Sustainable Development,” was followed by site visits for officials from federal and regional tourism bodies, Ethiopian geotourism professionals, and UNESCO experts.

Addis Ababa, May 12, 2025 (FMC) – Ethiopia is stepping up efforts to promote geotourism and develop UNESCO Global Geoparks as tools for sustainable development in Eastern Africa, in partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the nation’s Tourism Minister said.
Tourism Minister Ms. Selamawit Kassa told Fana Media Corporation that Ethiopia is working to enhance geotourism and geopark resources by addressing major gaps in awareness, coordination, and sectoral capacity.
She noted that despite the continent’s vast geological potential, only two African countries have registered geoparks with UNESCO—a reflection of underdevelopment in the sector.

Addis Ababa, May 11, 2025 (FMC) — With the growing infrastructure developments, the city has become a more vibrant and accessible destination, offering a range of modern amenities and services to the diverse needs of visitors, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Ethiopia Atif Sharif Mian told local news agency ENA.
The ambassador stated that infrastructure facilities in Addis Ababa have seen significant improvements.
“I think infrastructure has really improved in the last one year with the corridor project, the traffic bottlenecks have improved. The beauty of the city has improved that I’m sure it will bring more foreign tourists and a lot of Pakistani travelers are transiting through the Bole International Airport, and I want to give them a message to have a one night or two night stopover in Addis Ababa to explore the city,” he added. . . . . .

The participants visited historical sites in Addis Ababa, including the renovated National Palace Museum, Adwa Victory Memorial Museum, and Enoto Park yesterday.

Addis Ababa, May 6, 2025 (FMC) – A workshop aimed at creating awareness about UNESCO Global Geoparks and Geotourism Development will be held from May 12–15, 2025 in Addis Ababa.
UNESCO Global Geopark is the most recent UNESCO site designation that has 229 geoparks across 50 countries as of April 2025.
Among the 229 UNESCO Global Geoparks in 50 countries, however, only 2 are in Africa, irrespective of Africa’s spectacular and diverse geological heritage of international significance, it was learned.
Sources noted that one of the key factors for low number of UNESCO Global Geoparks in Africa, including Ethiopia, is a lack of awareness about Geoparks among stakeholders.

Addis Ababa, May 3, 2025 (FMC) – Ethiopia has been carrying out endeavors that promote its untapped coffee tourism by preparing tour packages to the origin of coffee and making visitors experience the vibrant coffee culture, Tourism State Minister Endegena Abebe said.
Opening the Second Regular General Assembly of Ethiopian National Coffee Association (ENCA) on Friday, the state minister said coffee has unique cultural values in Ethiopia beyond its being the backbone of export trade and the economy in general.
Therefore, the ministry is working in collaboration with the association in using large coffee farms and the home of coffee origins as tour packages.
The packages for visitors include the cultivation, harvesting, and all the processing of coffee and its unique traditional ceremonies as well as experiencing the vibrant coffee culture
